Falling Flowers – ‘OPEN ME’ Any day Card

Pootles Design Team Challenge Week 4

My fourth and sadly my last project for the Pootles Design Team challenge. I loved making this fun 3D card, totally inspired by my sister. I don’t get to see her very often as we live so far apart and her passion as if you couldn’t guess is shopping. So created this card just for her and will be popping in the post as soon as I have finished typing up this blog post.

The glimmer paper used has sadly now retired so I haven’t added to my list but a co-ordinating cardstock adding a touch of Wink of Stella would work just as well. I have listed all the other products I have used below:-

  • Falling Flowers Stamp Set 139556
  • Thick Whisper White Cardstock 140490
  • Island Indigo Ink Pad 126986
  • Old Olive Ink Pad 126953
  • Rich Razzleberry Ink Pad 126950
  • Archival Basic Black Ink Pad 140931
  • Solid Bakers Twine white 124262
  • 1″ Circle Punch 119868
  • 1 1/4″ Circle Punch 119861
  • Clear Block D 118485
  • Multipurpose Liquid Glue 110755
  • Mini Glue Dots 103683
  • Layering Squares Framelits 141708
  • Brights DSP 138434
  • Regals DSP 138436

This is how I made it:-

  • Card Base – thick whisper white cardstock which measures 8″ x 5 3/4″ Score in half on the short side 2 7/8″
  • Little Bag – DSP needs to measure 3 1/4″ x 2″
  • Score on the long side 1 1/4″ – 1 1/2″ – 2 3/4″ – 3″
  • Score on the short side 1/4″
  • Burnish the score lines and cut out the little square at the bottom then make tiny cuts up to your score line so you can see how it folds to make up the little bag which is quite sturdy for something so small – make and glue on your handles BEFORE making up the box.
  • Handles – DSP measures 2 1/4″ x 1/8″ gently use your bone folder to create a curve, just by eye glue the handles on to the inside.
  • Now the box can be glued together, I used tombow liquid glue for this.
  • Gently squeeze the sides in at the top using fingers and thumbs to create the inverted folds at the sides.
  • I used two of the layering squares framlits to form the layered base for my bags to sit on, I also punched out six circles from the bottom glitter layer to pop underneath the sides of the bag, as this followed the design of the DSP I had chosen and then didn’t become to heavy with the added layers.
  • I also cut out a square of tissue paper and stamped my design before tucking it inside, I didn’t glue mine in.
  • To put your layers together and adhere to the card for best results I used mini glue dots rather than a wet glue which I find can sometimes buckle a card.
  • I stuck the centre one down first then left 1/4″ space either side for the other two.
  • As there wasn’t much room to stamp a sentiment on the bottom of the card I decided to add my sentiment to look like a gift tag which worked well with the overall effect.
  • A perfect card to send to a friend who adores shopping, you could even pop a little hand written note inside too.
  • Do let me know if you can’t follow these instructions or need further help, you can always contact me via my email x

I do hope you like this project. All supplies can be bought from my shop using the link at the top.  I also welcome your comments and any questions, scroll down and leave me a comment.
